The Westwatcher
Inspired by surfing and the surfing life, the Westwatcher's music is a chill variant of surf-rock. A step way back into the instrumental pop of the 1960s. Echoes of the “Endless Summer Theme,” Antonio Carlos Jobím, and Martin Denny are evoked through the twang of Fender and Gretsch guitars, lush reverbs, and cinematic melodies. Of course, Darius' songwriting and guitar work are at the center of things. He calls the genre “surf-chill” and has released three Westwatcher albums: Locally Exotic (summer, 2023), Slide the Wide Horizon (summer, 2022), and Groundswell Corduroy (summer, 2021). What began as a fun experiment during the Covid lockdown became a central passion. Click on the album covers below for the music.
